Home Economics 9
In this course, students will spend a term learning foods and a term learning sewing. In Foods introductory course will cover topics such as nutrition, food preparation and food safety. We will closely at topics such pantry staple recipes, innovation in the kitchen and food marketing. In Sewing students will make grocery bags, PJ shorts and t-shirts.
FOODS 10
This course will build on the content of Foods 9, covering such topics as nutrition, methods of food preparation, sanitation and food safety, environmental concerns, and consumer issues. This is a lab-oriented course and students will be involved in cooperative teamwork.
FOODS 11
This is an in-depth course in the study of foods and nutrition. More advanced food preparation methods, Food Safe certification, nutrition update, career possibilities, and preparation for independent living are some of the topics that will be included.
FOODS 12
An advanced course for the student with a solid food studies background. Students will be expected to have a keen interest in the study of foods and nutrition and to be able to work independently and as a team member. Advanced units of study include foreign foods (Greek, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Mexican, etc.), nutrition through the life cycle, current nutrition issues, spices, gourmet foods, independent living, current consumer issues, etc.

FASHION AND SEWING 9
This introductory course will teach students hand sewing and machine sewn projects such as: pyjamas, quilts, and knit dress or shirt. Including pattern manipulation to create student original designs.
FASHION AND SEWING 10
This course continues to build on the skills of Fashion and Sewing 9. In this course students will work on projects such as: tote bags or lunch kits, a woven skirt and more advance quilting. This course will also introduce students to pattern drafting where students will design their own t-shirt.
FASHION AND SEWING 11
Building on Fashion and Sewing 11 projects include: button up shirt, pants with a straight waistband. Designing will continue with students drafting and designing their own unique skirt.
FASHION AND SEWING 12
In this final year of Fashion and Sewing students will work with 4 way knit and project. In addition students will draft and design a pair of pants.
